Popular resistance update: 22/11/2014 until 28/11/2014

In Jerusalem, the daily confrontations with the Israeli occupation forces continued in the old city, Shu’fat, Mount of Olives, Silwan, Al Isawiya, Beit Hanina, Athouri, Shu’fat refugee camp, Sur Baher and Jabal Al Mukaber,

6 Palestinians have been killed and 900 arrested in Jerusalem since July this year. Only during November, 111 of the people have been arrested in Jerusalem and thousands injured.

After the Israeli failure to stop the protests and demonstrations, Israel enforces now a series of measure of collective punishments against Palestinians in Jerusalem. Israeli occupation forces the entrances of the villages  and neighborhoods with big cement blocks with police presence. 5 balloons with surveillance cameras hover round the clock in the sky over Al Isawiya, Mount of Olives, Shu’fat, Silwan and Jabal Al Mukaber. Police and tax collectors are at the checkpoints at most of the village entrances, hundreds of policemen and special forces are stationed on the main streets and in the old city.

The Al Aqsa mosque is closed most of the day time for Muslim worshippers. Police is stationed on every door to the mosque. Only worshippers above 50 years of age are allowed to enter the Al Aqsa and, in addition, they have to hand over their ID cards to the police for the time they are inside the mosque. This means that people constantly worry whether their IC card will still be there on exiting or whether they will be called for interrogation etc. The almost daily invasions of settlers and fanatic religious groups continues unabated. Israeli occupation forces accompany these groups in their invasions to the mosque and provoke regular clashes inside the Holy Compound.

More oppressive steps being prepared by the occupation authorities against the people involved in the demonstrations. Propositions of law that would allow imprisonment for 20 years for stone throwing and deportation of the families out of Jerusalem are currently being discussed in the Israeli cabinet and parliament.

At Qalandya checkpoint, the occupation forces suppressed with live ammunition, sound bombs, rubber coated metal bullets and tear gas canisters the demonstration in support of Jerusalem and access to the Al-Aqsa mosque. Protesters closed the main street and burned tires during the march to the checkpoint to break the siege on Jerusalem. Despite the heavy repression, the protest lasted for full five hours. A number of demonstrators have been injured.

Israeli occupation forces suppressed as well the weekly marches against the apartheid Wall and the settlements in the villages of Nabi Saleh, Nilin, Bilin, Al Masara and Kufur Qadoum  Ahmed Barghouti, 14 years old, from Nabi Saleh was shot with life ammunition in the leg, dozens have suffered from suffocation as a result of inhaling tear gas bombs.

In Kafr  Kadoum, the Italian activist Patrick Corsi, 30 years, has been injured with a live bullet in his chest fired at him by the Israeli occupation soldiers. His condition are described as stable. Patrick refused to be taken to an Israeli hospital. He underwent emergency treatment at the Rafidia Nablus hospital and was  later moved to the Palestine medical complex in the city of Ramallah. A number of Palestinians have been injured as well by rubber coated metal bullets and suffocated with tear gas.

In Hebron, dozens have been injured in a demonstration at the entrance of Shuhada Street. The protest was organized to oppose the closure for Palestinians of this main street in Hebron. Since years, only Israeli settlers are allowed to walk and cross the street. Both, settlers and soldiers have acted together to repress the protest.

Note: We have opted to relate the facts regarding popular resistance and repression within the same summary. However, it should be clear that repression is not the result of resistance but resistance is the result of repression.
