Tulkarm

On Wednesday, June 27, youth movements and other popular forces have joined in a protest in Tulkarem to reiterate the call of the Palestinian people on the Palestinian Authority to lift the sanctions from Gaza. See the video here. 

As part of wider project to build up women’s organizing capacity within their respective unions, the New Unions concluded a 3-day leadership training at their central office in the West Bank city of Tulkarm on March 19.

2016 has seen two important – and victorious – labour struggles in the settlement factories in Tulkarem. This article tells their story and gives the background of systematic exploitation and oppression of the workers by the Israeli apartheid system and its industries. We are tell below about the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian workers, especially in the Tulkarem settlement industrial zone, and outline the initial destruction of the Palestinian agricultural sector in the region and the exploitation of the surplus labour created in this manner.

All the neighborhood are present. The street is embellished with flags and banners. Family, friends, and neighbors are gathered. They are waiting for a hero. 

 

Sireen Khudairi was stopped by Israeli soldiers on her way home from university. After four months she was released. There had been no trial. When she asked the interrogators what she was accused of, the answer was: «That you have to tell us».

 

 

 

Late on Wednesday night clashes erupted at Einab checkpoint, east of Tulkarem in the Occupied West Bank, resulting in the death of two Palestinian teenagers. Security officials confirmed that Israeli soldiers opened fire with live bullets killing Amer Nassar , 17, instantly when several bullets hit him in the chest. His body was held by the Israeli Occupation Forces for several hours before finally being returned to the Palestinian Red Crescent.

As a result of the Israeli aggression on Gaza protest demonstrations and solidarity marches was arranged all over the West Bank – From Jenin in the north to Hebron in the south. Once again the occupation forces of Israel suppressed the popular resistance of the Palestinians.

The first time I went to Turkalem, in the northeast of the West Bank, I did not know much about the situation there. I basically knew that it was mainly an agricultural region.

In Turkalem I met Faize Taneeb, an organic farmer, which already makes his story intresting, but the conditions he has to wrok his land, are the ones that make his case a special one.
