Ramallah for Khadr Adnan – a Protest of Solidarity and Hope

This morning over a thousand people gathered in front of the Red Cross building in Ramallah/Al Bireh to join the protest organized by the Palestinian youth movements and political parties in solidarity with Khadr Adnan and all Palestinian political prisoners.

The protest was organized in conjunction with a general strike proclaimed from noon time to 2 pm.

The march started from the Red Cross building and went to al-Manara Square, the center of Ramallah. While marching, the youth activists ensured that the few remaining open shops would close as well. All across the center of Ramallah stores and markets were shut down and people stopped their activities to participate in the protest.

People shouted slogans in solidarity with Khadr Adnan and all Palestinian political prisoners. They underlined how Khadr Adnan with his heroic hunger strike has been able to expose globally the brutality and inhumanity of the Israeli prison and “justice” system, especially the practice of “administrative detention”. They remembered as well all those Palestinian prisoners that went on hunger strike in solidarity with Khadr Adnan and for their own dignity.

An hour into the general strike, PNA security guards started to pass along the closed shops and asked them to open again and restore “normality”.

At this stage some 300 of the protestors in the demonstration decided to move the protest in front of the Israeli military prison at Ofar, close to Ramallah. The Israeli military immediately launched tear gas at the arriving protestors and heavy clashes are still continuing in the area in front of the military prison.
