Military Embargo

Palestinian civil society and human rights organisations mark Palestinian Prisoners’ Day with call for action against Israeli prison contractor G4S

Two protests have been held today in Palestine to protest a French-Israeli military deal. A wide variety of youth organizations has organized the protests to oppose the French acquisition of $500 million worth of drones from Israeli Airspace Indistries.

Some 30 people gathered in Jerusalem in front of the French consulate and only hours later some 50 people protested in Ramallah in front of the French cultural center.

The world’s eyes are still fixed on the Middle East, and the first half of September has delivered two profound events in Egypt and Turkey that have sent shockwaves through the Israeli establishment.

Palestinian political forces and civil society have joined in a letter to the newly appointed Brazilian minister of defence Celso Amorim congratulating him for his appointment and expressing their hope that under his mandate Brazil's defense policies would lead to a new area of respect for human and Palestinian rights. This clearly means ending Brazil's military relations with Israel and cutting contracts with Israeli arms companies. Brazil today is the world's 4th largest importer of Israeli arms and keeps many joint ventures.

Impose an immediate, comprehensive military embargo on Israel!

A call for urgent international action

Stop the Wall has submitted a contribution to the EU consultation on its research policy in which it has denounced the funding of Israeli companies – and in particular Israeli companies involved in the construction of the Apartheid Wall – through European Union research programs.

This 31 pages report details the active support of the Brazilian state for the Israeli arms industry as well as the Israeli interests in and profits from Brazil’s military and defense industry.  It finally confronts these realities with the framework of economic, legal and political interests and obligations of Brazil.

The report is available below in English and Portuguese.

Stop the Wall has issued today a briefing 'Brazil’s economic and military relationship with Israel' asserting that - if Brazil continues along its current political path -, it will effectively close off every possibility for the country to be an agent of just peace whether in the region or in the Middle East.
